HOW DID WE CALCULATE THE g/CO2 RELATED TO MOBILITY?

The formula for calculating the carbon footprint is not a creation of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Housing. It is an independently developed tool aimed at facilitating the understanding of how carbon is generated through attendance at the MEO Kalorama Festival.

The formula used for the carbon footprint calculation is as follows:
[(Km x CO2/Km) x (x1/x2)] + [(1/2/3) x (CO2/option1 + CO2/option2)] = Total CO2

In the mentioned formula:
“Km” refers to the distance the user travels from their point of origin to the event.
“CO2/Km” refers to the type of vehicle used and its efficiency in terms of fuel consumption.
“x1” and “x2” indicate whether the trip is one-way or includes the return.
“1/2/3” refers to the number of days the user will attend the festival.
“CO2/option1″ and “CO2/option2″ refer to the means of transport used to travel to and from the festival venue.
“Total CO2” refers to the carbon footprint generated by attending the event.*

*The result of “Total CO2” is presented as a comparison with the average annual carbon footprint of a Portuguese citizen.

  1. Sources of Information

Sources of Information
The information necessary for the carbon footprint calculation is obtained from two main sources. The first consists of recognized and reliable sources, such as the MITECO Emission Factors document, RACE, and data from the European Environment Agency (EEA).

The second source is the information provided by users of the CO2 calculator. This data includes the distance traveled, the type of vehicle used, the number of days the user will attend the festival, and the means of transport selected for traveling to and from the festival venue. All this data is voluntarily provided by the user and is used exclusively for the carbon footprint calculation.

  1. Limitation of Liability

Although every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of the formula, the results provided by it should be considered estimates and not exact calculations. Users are responsible for the interpretation and use of the results obtained.

  1. Use of the Formula

The formula for calculating the carbon footprint is provided for personal and non-commercial use. Modification, distribution, or use for profit is not permitted without prior written consent from the creators.
